How gouging carbon rod works

1. Principle

Producing carbon arc welding between carbon arc rods and base metal, and melting down the base metal by the heat at the same time, and removing the melted metals by the high pressure air around the Carbon Gouging Rod.

2. Characteristics

1. Because of high speed work carbon arc gouging process it provides high efficiency and save costs.

2. It makes upside work easier.

3. Owing to Arc consumes small portion of base metal by focusing only one point, momentarily at the same time high pressed air removes melted metal and cooling down, there is no high heat deformation, crack or material changes.

4. It is easy to find welding defects on gauging side this can be inspection of welding also. And it is convenient to detect defective parts when to inspect by X-ray.

5. It proves reduced noise and almost none fatigueless.

6. It helps rapid cutting with clean finishing of cutting surface and lower temperature increase.

7. It can be used to cut steel plate, base steel, amalgamated metal, stainless steel, manganese steel and copper alloy and other kinds of metals.

3. Characters of carbon arc electrodes

Gouging Carbon Rod which is used for air arc gouging is made by mixing high quality pure graphite and processed with high pressure, with high heated with copper clothed, it has been made not to be consumed by carbon gouging and to resist against high heat temperature.

l Characteristics 1) Electric resistance: below 2mΩ- cm2

                           2) Overall gravity: above 1.65g/ cm2

                           3) Fixed Carbon: more than 98.5%

                           4) Hardness: Above 30(50 shore)

                           5) Tear resistance: 300 kg/ cm2

l Selection of Carbon rod size  Width of groove(m.m) = rod diameter(m.m)*1.5

Depth of groove(m.m) = rod diameter(m.m)*0.8

Normal ampere(A.m.p) = rod diameter(m.m)*40

4. Process method – air carbon arc cutting process

A. Removing arc gouging welding defects

1) Adjust carbon arc torch air valve and push straight forward by producing arc between gouging electrode and base metal.

2) Normal angle between rod and base metal: 45°

* According to work condition( ex. Groove shape, air pressure, electricity), more is the angle(45°) it is difficult to remove melted metal.

3) It is proper to keep process speed by 0.6mm/min.

4) A carbon gouging electrode can gauging 1.5m-2.5m and takes 2-5 min.

5) Arc air gouging rods can be used until final 5cm remaining.

B. Removing on Castings

1) While air carbon arc gouging between "carbon arc gouging rods" and castings and with rotating rod removes metals by arc heat.

2) Bigger the process angle at base metal it can be removed deeply.

C. Cutting

1) Keep the "gouging rods" straight up and push forward.

2) Process speed 0.5m-2m/ min.

3) It cuts even stainless, casting and brass which are very hard to be cut with gas, and it cuts very fast.

D. Making a hole

1) Normal angle between arc gouging rods and base metal surface.

2) Insert end of the arc air gouging carbon into the base metal.It is downside work after inserting "carbon gouging rods" into base metal.If it needs bigger hole like 3-4mm core bigger than expected, expand the circles of hole with side of the Carbon rod end, then bigger hole could be made.
